How velour, velvet, and microfiber differ in feel, light behavior, stain interaction, and suitability for different upholstery use profiles.
These terms are often used interchangeably in retail, but technical behavior depends on fiber fineness, pile construction, and finishing details.
Touch marks and light response
Directional pile fabrics can change perceived shade after hand contact because light reflection angle changes. This is a known surface physics effect, not automatically a defect.
Selection by use profile
There is no single winner. Compare technical sheets, home swatches, and expected wear conditions, especially where pet claws or frequent head contact are likely.
